ABOUT ME

Jan_Professional_Photo_BW.jpg

I started designing in High School when I was on the yearbook staff. I loved designing page layouts and themes for the different events and categories.

Because of my love for design in High School I decided to study graphic design while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts degree at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I enjoyed designing logos and all forms of type including magazine spreads, brochures, and much more.

A few months before I graduated I obtained a job with American Dancer Magazine as the art director. I oversaw all art department activity on page layouts, conceptual designs, marketing strategy, and press production. I also collaborated with the editor and public relations director to create design concepts for pages like the Public Eye. In addition, I developed new branding and logos for various projects such as the National Dance Competition. While I worked for American Dancer I had the opportunity to worked with other client companies including Dance Vision to redesign advertisements and promotional materials.

After my work with American Dancer I was hired to work for Melaleuca as a web design intern at first, and after as a junior web designer. While at Melaleuca I helped launch the company’s first international website as lead designer of the site. Additionally, I designed emails that helped increase the email response rate from 18% to an average of over 30%. I was also on the team that revamped the product landing pages by constructing product stories. Part of my responsibilities was to analyze and correct website functionality to ensure optimal user experience. While I worked for Melaleuca I also helped to convert the website pages to be mobile compatible.

After my work as a web designer for Melaleuca I have had the opportunity to teach graphic design for Brigham Young University-Idaho as an adjunct professor. I have instructed students on the Adobe Suite including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I have also taught them how to communicate visually and adapt their designs to market a target audience.

In addition to my in-house design positions and teaching, I have had the opportunity to work on freelance design work for various companies developing branding materials such as logos and taking that brand and incorporating those designs to posters, brochures, tickets, and

much more.

Being able to create in many different forms has been one of the greatest joys of my life, and one which I love to share.
